On This Day 3 years ago…No Mercy 2016

On this day 3 years ago No Mercy emanated from the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California.

The event was a Smackdown Exclusive presentation which drew a capacity of 14, 324 fans to witness the advertised main event of AJ Styles defending the WWE World Championship in a Triple Threat Match against Dean Ambrose and John Cena.

The main event was scheduled to end the show as is usual tradition with Wrestling events, however this was changed on the day of the event as the main event would have clashed with the Second 2016 Presidential Election Debate which would have been airing at the same time as the main event. Therefore, the main event opened the show as opposed to closing the show.

AJ Styles retained his WWE World Championship in the opening match. In the finish of the match John Cena hit Dean Ambrose with a super “Attitude Adjustment” from the second rope seemingly for the victory.

However, before Cena could cover Ambrose for the victory, The Phenomenal One hit Cena with a steel chair and pinned the Leader of the Cenation for the win to retain his WWE World Championship.

What are your memories of the match and No Mercy 2016 as an event overall?
