Then vs Now: Brock Lesnar

Then vs Now: Brock Lesnar

This week’s edition of Then vs Now features the current WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar.

Let’s take a look how Brock Lesnar has evolved over 17 years from his WWE debut in 2002 to this current year 2019.

Brock Lesnar signed a developmental deal with WWE in 2000, reporting to the company’s then developmental system Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). Lesnar would go on to make his debut on the March 18, 2002 edition of Monday Night Raw attacking Al Snow, Maven and Spike Dudley along with manager Paul Heyman during a match.

Brock Lesnar would go on to win the 2002 King of the Ring earning him a WWE Undisputed Championship opportunity at that year’s SumerSlam pay per view. The Beast would defeat The Rock at SummerSlam to become the WWE Undisputed Champion becoming the youngest WWE Champion of all time at the age of 25 years old. Brock Lesnar would also become the second fastest professional wrestler to become WWE Champion after their WWE debut at 126 days. Lesnar would then become exclusive to Smackdown as part of the brand extension “signing a contract” with Smackdown General Manager Stephanie McMahon’s blue brand.

Fast forward to 2019, Brock Lesnar is once again WWE Champion, managed by Paul Heyman and an exclusive member of Friday Night Smackdown on FOX. The Beast, currently in his fifth reign as WWE Champion, defeated Kofi Kingston on the Smackdown 20th Anniversary debut episode on FOX on October 4, 2019. This makes Brock Lesnar an eight-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion overall.

Over the past 17 years Brock Lesnar has achieved the following accomplishments in professional wrestling and mixed martial arts with numerous companies:

  • WWE Championship – 5 times
  • WWE Universal Championship – 3 times
  • 2002 King of the Ring Winner
  • 2019 Men’s Money in the Bank Winner
  • 2003 Royal Rumble Winner
  • IWGP Heavyweight Championship – 1 time
  • UFC Heavyweight Championship – 1 time (2 successful title defenses)

What is next for The Beast?
