Will The Rock appear on Smackdown’s FOX debut?

The Rock is synonymous with Smackdown, so much so that the blue brand got it’s name from one of The Rock’s many catchphrases that caught fire during the apex of the attitude era in the late 90s.

Many are suggesting that Smackdown will now become WWE’s main focus and “A-show” with it’s move to Friday Nights on FOX. This is due to the WWE/FOX deal being a 5-year deal with $205 million per year, amounting to over $1 Billion for the duration of the deal. This is the largest television rights deal the WWE has ever signed.

Evidence of WWE attempting to “stack the deck” for it’s Friday Night FOX debut can be seen with WWE booking a WWE Championship match between Champion Kofi Kingston and challenger Brock Lesnar. This will be Lesnar’s first Smackdown TV match in 15 years. Other matches include the WWE’s Four Horsewomen facing off in tag team action as well as a “Loser is Fired” Ladder match between Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon.

Other legends and WWE Hall of Famers announced for the show include Kurt Angle, Mick Foley, Booker T, Hulk Hogan, Jerry “The King” Lawler, Mark Henry, Ric Flair, Trish Stratus, Lita, Goldberg and Sting.

With such a stacked show with huge importance to WWE, many fans have questioned if “The Great One” himself will appear in some form on the show he helped name.

It has been suggested by AdAge that “many other” special appearances are “being kept under wraps” with some speculating that The Rock may appear to promote his Disney Jungle Cruise movie due to be released in 2020.

Editor’s opinion: The Rock appearing on Smackdown’s FOX debut is 50/50 in my opinion. Well it’s very possible that he could make a surprise appearance, it’s still a two hour show with several significant announced matches and Legends/Hall of Famers appearing. I’m unsure if the show itself would be able to fit in a 20/25 minute Rock promo segment. Despite this, WWE & FOX would love the mainstream coverage that The Great One brings, so i think it could be very likely that The Rock appears in the form of a quick promo/interview/live via satellite segment.
