WWE “front runners” to sign Tessa Blanchard?
TalkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy, amongst others, are reporting that WWE are being considered as “front runners” to sign former IMPACT Wrestling World Champion Tessa Blanchard.
It was announced last week that Tessa Blanchard had been terminated by IMPACT Wrestling and stripped of the IMPACT Wrestling World Championship after not appearing on IMPACT Wrestling television for several months due the COVID-19 lockdown and quarantine restrictions.
Since her release many professional wrestling fans, naturally, have been discussing where Tessa Blanchard will land next. Blanchard certainly has pedigree after becoming the first woman in professional wrestling history to win a ‘men’s’ World Championship in a North American promotion at the age of only 24.
Reports have stated that Tessa Blanchard’s contract was due to expire on June 30, 2020, possibly extending to July 18, and showed zero interest in re-signing, despite being advertised to return to IMPACT Wrestling and defend her World Championship at Slammiversary on July 18.
After not appearing on IMPACT Wrestling for several months due to the COVID-19 lockdown and quarantine, several reports have suggested that Blanchard was asked by IMPACT officials to send in promos from her home in Mexico to hype her upcoming return.
However, this was met with silence from the IMPACT World Champion. Tessa Blanchard currently resides in Mexico with her fiancee, preventing her from attending recent IMPACT television tapings due to travel restrictions in place with the United States due to COVID-19.
Alex McCarthy from TalkSPORT is reporting that sources close to Blanchard indicate they believe she will sign with WWE. This is on top of Dave Meltzer reporting that WWE has “sent feelers” to Tessa Blanchard since her release.
Tessa Blanchard has worked with WWE in the past, appearing on the NXT brand in 2016 and competing in the 2017 Mae Young Classic. However, it was reported that WWE did not sign Blanchard due to “attitude issues”, something which Tessa Blanchard denies.
In addition to this, Tessa Blanchard was accused of racist and bullying behaviour earlier this year, prior to becoming the IMPACT World Champion, on Social Media by several wrestling personalities.
